GDG Armenia Report' 2013

2013 was in general an active year for GDG Armenia. About 500 people participated in 13 meetings organized during the year, and it is noteworthy that 3 of these 13 meetings were held outside Yerevan.

The first meeting was held in February with a small celebration event dedicated to GDG Armenia’s 2 year anniversary.

This was followed by 4 meetings in Yerevan, Dilijan, Goris and Vanadzor, aiming to introduce the Google Map Maker to the young people and to instruct them how they can improve their town’s map on Google Maps.

The Google I/O Extended, that has already become a tradition, is one of the most awaited events of the year. Like in previous years, this year also the active members of the group met to watch the Google I/O 2013.

The main subject of the next 3 meetings held in July was Android. During the Android App Design Clinic event the participants presented their applications to the Angry Designers Group members and got tips from them on how to improve the design. After this meetings followed the meeting with the special envoy, former Google employee Adam Mathias Bittlingmayer on the subject Apps Monetization. On the next day about 10 teams competed during the 10-hour hackathon called “ecaHack Yerevan 2013”.

The best meeting of the year took place end of September, when about 250 participants of GDG DevFest Armenia event were two days listening to and enjoying the presentations of the special guests and local speakers about AngularJS, Google Glass and a number of other technologies.

Two of year-end meetings were with the Google employee Mr. Divon Lan, in form of questions and answers. The first meeting was in TUMO Center with the students of the Center and other students, while the second meeting was with GDG Armenia members and with Startups.

And of course, the year ended with the G-Mas Armenia event that had become a tradition from last year, when the group members with a glass of beer recalled the events of the departing year.

Hereby the group completed the yearly meetings and celebrated the coming 2014 year with aim to have more interesting meetings and with great expectations.
